Scandinavian Timberframes™ was conceived by its principal at the time of the creation of a timberframe house in the western United States more than 21 years ago. The Company’s first project is now in process in the small town of Klässbol in southern Sweden on Glafsfjorden, a unique inland fjord dating back into the last ice age.  Klässbol is widely known for Klässbols Linneväveri AB, which creates timeless linen weaving patterns that have become cultural treasures in Sweden as the designs and expertise have been handed down through four generations of the founder’s family tracing back almost 100 years.

Our firm is currently commencing a lifestyle transfer project between these recognized and admired North American and Canadian manufacturers and local Swedish builders. Our goal is to demonstrate in this first project in Sweden the compatibility of North American ingenuity and design within a rural Swedish lifestyle that is available for enjoyment in a symphony with nature itself.

We have sourced what we believe is the first timberframe of American design and manufacture from Timberpeg® of Claremont, New Hampshire, for export to Sweden. The Douglas fir frame and structural insulated panels (SIPs) will be assembled in the Summer of 2016 as a lake cottage in Klässbol on the shore of Glafsfjorden. In addition to the timberframe itself, other remarkable elements in this U.S./Swedish project include the Douglas Fir cabinetry created by Crown Point Cabinetry, Claremont, New Hampshire, and the Loewen Windows and Doors selected from the Loewen Window Center, White River Junction, Vermont and manufactured in Manitoba, Canada. Loewen products were selected because of their compatible design, craftsmanship, durability and performance along with casings made from Douglas fir. Crown Point Cabinetry was selected because it manufactures the premier line of fine quality, handcrafted, custom cabinetry for the entire home in the United States, supported by their own internal, experienced, professional designer-employees, who ensure that their cabinetry orders are always delivered on time.

Haiku® Home fans, the residential division of Big Ass Solutions, Memphis, Tennessee, will be installed in the project. Haiku® fans are recognized for their efficiency, occupying the top 19 spots on ENERGY STAR® ceiling fan listings and spanning 52 to 60 inches in diameter in the cottage. Haiku fans are ideal for rooms of any size, are made of sustainably harvested Moso bamboo, are a durable matrix composite of aircraft-grade aluminum, and deliver silent year-round air circulation with award-winning style.

Minka-Lavery® Group is placing a representation of their unique portfolio of lighting designs into the project. The entire project, which is intended to showcase the rural traditions of southern Sweden supplemented by American technologies, design and functionality, will introduce, expand, advance and develop a European building technology dating back more than 300 years that has been rekindled and vastly improved upon under the trade name of Scandinavian Timberframes™.
